MAMA DOG OF THREE NURSES ORPHANED KITTEN TOO!

dog-kitten-lgRoadhouse, a tiny black kitten, was miraculously found on the streets of New York City and brought to the Animal Haven shelter.

The kitten was so young that she wasn’t weaned yet. The concerned staff at Animal Haven tried to give Roadhouse a bottle with formula, but Roadhouse wasn’t interested.

The staff came up with an idea. One of their newest shelter residents, Coco the Maltese, had just given birth a short time before Roadhouse arrived. Coco was nursing her three puppies…maybe she would allow Roadhouse to nurse along with them.

Woolford Provincial Rec Area

There is a park about an hour from here that used to be a campground, that is now day use only.  I remember driving through it years ago and wondering what the heck you would do there if you camped there.  It’s by a river, but not much else.  We were looking for a quiet place to go yesterday so we decided to see what it was like.

The good news is, that it was totally deserted.  Except for the ton of wildlife.  You can tell nobody comes down there based on the number of deer we saw. They were everywhere!

The bad news is, there is still nothing to do.  We walked down the old campground road that’s been blocked off and ambled our way to the river.  There was really only one good entry point for the dogs and you couldn’t walk along the shore due to high banks everywhere.

So we ambled along through the woods while the dogs explored and we managed to redirect them whenever we spotted a deer.  We saw a nighthawk do a broken wing display and I was pretty worried he wasn’t going to be faking for long as the dog’s took off in pursuit.  Thankfully Coulee is too slow and Lacey was a few steps behind at the start.  :)

We took a long rambling way home along back roads and had a pretty fun morning over all.

My Style // Coffee and Kimonos

My Style: Coffee and Kimonos // Bubby and Bean
My Style: Coffee and Kimonos // Bubby and Bean

Hey look, an outfit post! You guys may (or may not) have noticed that the ol’ ‘My Style‘ posts are few and far between these days. I haven’t given up on sharing my personal style in this space by any means, but the truth is, scheduling time for photo shoots of yourself when you have a baby is something I just can’t seem to get the hang of, even when my husband or friends are here to help. I always thought that if these posts fell to the wayside after Essley was born, it would be the result of me no longer wearing anything other than tees and leggings, or like, pajamas all day, or something.  But that’s not the case at all. I get dressed every single morning, I still love and care about fashion as much as I ever have, and I make a conscious effort not to let the fact that I’m a mother now get in the way of continuing to wear clothes that I love. It’s really just a matter of time and logistics. This blog is part of my full-time job, and I have to be practical about scheduling for workdays that include a lot of office work and in house projects. Lugging a camera and lenses and a teething baby to pretty locations (because sorry, the back of a townhouse just doesn’t make for a nice background) on days when the weather and lighting happen to agree, then standing in front of a camera trying pose without laughing (either at my own awkwardness or the hilariously loud screeching sounds coming from my child) can be a major ordeal. Add to that sorting through several dozen photos to find a handful where I don’t look like a complete fool, then cropping and editing, and, well, it’s just a lot of effort to showcase an outfit. I plan to continue to share style posts on occasion, but for the time being, they’ll probably only be a monthly thing.

And now that I’ve gotten that lengthy explanation out of the way, on to what I wore this day. We’d actually just spent the afternoon at a child’s birthday party, and we made an impromptu stop at our favorite forest preserve on the way to our dinner plans. I wasn’t planning on doing outfit pictures this day, but we had the camera with us so we decided to snap some shots, mainly because I’ve been meaning to share this gorgeous jewelry here for weeks now (more on than in a minute). And also, I love this outfit you guys. I’m going to be honest and just admit that I’ve worn this exact outfit twice a week (or more) for the last couple of months. It has become my go-to summer outfit and I’m already bummed that it’s going to be shoved in the back of my closet with the other warm weather duds any day now.

Each piece of this outfit is at the top of my list, if we’re breaking things down. Anyone who knows me would vouch for the fact that “I Need Coffee” is pretty much my motto, and I bought this tee (which is now sold out, boooo) straight off the rack without trying it on or even stopping to look at anything else on my way to the register. It’s my favorite shirt. I also love this kimono, more than I can put into words really. The current kimono trend is quite possibly the best trend of all time. Anything that combines major comfort, pretty prints, a boho vibe, and an oversized garment that covers all the areas I’d like to be covered these days is an automatic thumbs up in my book. The shorts aren’t much to discuss. They’re cut-off jeans. They’re comfortable. They fit well. The end.

I’ve mainly worn this outfit/uniform with moccasins this summer, but over the past week, I’ve been pulling out the boots. This particular pair of boots is one of my very favorite pairs of shoes in general, and I’m an especially big fan of the way they look paired with shorts. I snagged the hat last summer and have worn it more than all my other hats combined since. But I think my favorite accessory here is the absolutely stunning necklace that the lovely Jade over at Jade Stone Jewelry made for me. The combination of the triangle and quartz is so me and I wear it almost everyday. I also adore the spiral copper rings she made me, and wear them almost daily as well. She is an incredibly talented jewelry maker and also a really wonderful person. I love sporting her stuff.

So that’s that. My favorite summer outfit, finally shared with you all, right as we say goodbye to the season. (And a cameo appearance by Essley, who decided at the end that she wanted in on the action.)

If you have any suggestions of places to get heavier weight, more fall/winter-patterned kimonos (particularly ones I can wear with this coffee shirt until it’s hanging on me by a thread), please let me know!

Socializing Your Golden Retriever

Socializing your Golden Retriever is very important. As you may already know, all dog breeds behave different in front of strangers, with some dogs choosing to ignore people altogether. They may choose to glance at someone, then go on to pay no attention to him. On the other hand, some dogs are the total opposite and love to meet everyone they can. These types of dogs love attention, and will take any attention they can get.

Some Golden Retrievers are happy with those they have come to know in their own family, or those they have selected to be friends. Others on the other hand, may feel comfortable just around those of the same sex. Most Golden’s like children, although there are a few rare cases in which certain types of Golden Retrievers like adults but not children. This is extremely rare, and is normally due to the way they were bred or raised.

When your puppy is between the ages of 8 weeks and 8 months, socializing him is extremely important. During this time, you should always do everything you can to ensure that your Golden Retriever meets other people. Although he may be shy at first and not have much interaction, he will eventually come around. You will need to be patient with him during these times, as he will need quite a bit of reassurance from you.

Your dog’s parents also contribute to socialization. If the parents of your Golden Retriever were good with people and other dogs, the gene could very well be passed on to your dog. On the other hand, if the parents were shy or aggressive dogs, those genes could be passed on as well. Pups inherit the traits of their parents ,which is why it is very important to make sure that the dogs being bred are compatible with each other – and share a passive temperament.

If your puppy was separated from his mother before he reached the age of seven weeks, he won’t learn many of the social signals taught to him by his mom and his siblings. Golden Retriever pups that are brought to a new home earlier than seven weeks will normally tend to end up nippy or aggressive around people. Although they may be aggressive towards people, they may be shy or fearful around other dogs, as they lack the social skills needed to be themselves.

Sometimes, if a puppy was injured or frightened during his early years, he can end up with a state of trauma. This type of thing leaves a huge scar in the mind of a puppy, making it very hard for him to get past it. Most Golden Retriever pups that have been injured or frightened by an individual never get past it. They may end up fearing humans in general, or being very aggressive towards them when they feel frightened. When you take your puppy home for the first time, you should always make him feel welcomed, and never let anyone or anything harm him.

To better socialize your Golden Retriever, you should always make sure that he gets plenty of interaction with other people and other dogs in his breed. This way, your Golden will learn how to socialize at any early age. When he gets older in life, he will carry these skills with him. Golden Retrievers that are sheltered or not given the proper amount of interaction will turn out shy towards people and other dogs. With your Golden being your companion for life – you should always ensure that he gets the socialization he needs.

?The All-on-4? procedure allows dentists to give patients implants with no bone grafting,? Dr. Jivraj said. ?But this requires a lot of analysis and planning ahead of time on the doctor?s part. This analysis and planning is what I will speak about.?
