Oxnard All on 4 Dental Implants Experts Warn Implants Aren?t for Everyone

Oxnard, CA (PRWEB) July 09, 2014

Oxnard All on 4 dental implants experts Dr. Saj Jivraj and Dr. Mamaly Reshad of the Anacapa Dental Art Institute are prosthodontists, meaning they are experts in rebuilding natural teeth and restoring missing and damaged teeth with prosthetic replacements.

However, despite offering a Ventura contemporary dental implant center, the two elite dentists want denture users and others with missing teeth to know that dental implants are not right for every patient.

?About 40 million Americans wear dentures, and this includes 57 percent of those aged 65 to 74 years old,? Dr. Jivraj said. ?Most of those people would be happier with dental implants because they are more like real teeth.?

Dental implants screw into a patient?s jaw bone as an anchor for a prosthetic tooth on top. With the groundbreaking All on Four dental implants, patients without their upper and/or lower teeth can get a full set of false teeth with only four implants in each jaw.

?While we believe implants are the best solution for many of our patients,? Dr. Reshad said, ?some patients have other factors that outweigh the benefits of implants.?

Dr. Jivraj and Dr. Reshad have 4 tips to know if someone is a poor candidate for dental implants. You are not a good candidate if you:

1. Have chronic health conditions that are out of control. Uncontrolled heart disease and diabetes are examples. A patient who is healthy enough for a routine dental procedure is usually enough for a dental implant. However, those with risk factors that prevent oral surgery must get them under control before getting implants.

2. Have poor oral hygiene. Dental implants must be cared for like normal teeth. A patient will not get the full benefit of implants if they do not care for them properly. Plus, patients with a history of poor oral care often have bone or gum infections, which must be cared for before getting implants.

3. Are too young. As we grow from children to adults, our jawbone grows and establishes our permanent smile. Placing an implant too soon could disturb this movement.

4. Have radiation treatments to the jaw bone or take intravenous bisphosphonates. Both can interfere with your jaw healing after surgery.

Dr. Jivraj and Dr. Reshad are award-winning prosthodontists. They are specialists in implant, cosmetic and reconstructive dentistry. Both are former chairmen of the University of Southern California School of Dentistry?s Fixed Prosthodontics and Operative Dentistry section. They also are international lecturers and published authors.

Dr. Jivraj earned his degree at the University of Manchester in his native England. He received advanced prosthodontic training at the USC School of Dentistry. He has published numerous articles on aesthetic and implant dentistry in peer-reviewed journals, and has presented on implant dentistry and advanced prosthodontic procedures nationally and internationally.

Dr. Jivraj is co-author of the textbook ?Treatment Planning in Implant Dentistry,? which is used around the world. He is on the editorial board of the highly prestigious Journal of Esthetic and Restorative Dentistry, ad hoc reviewer for the Journal of Prosthetic Dentistry and is associate clinical editor for Dental Teamwork magazine.

He currently holds a faculty position as an associate clinical professor at the USC School of Dentistry, clinical teacher at the Eastman Dental Institute in London and is on the board of directors for the British Academy of Restorative Dentistry.

Jivraj was voted ?Best of USA? by his peers in 2008.

Dr. Reshad, a fellow prosthodontist, is an internationally known expert in restorative and cosmetic dental procedures. He has published in numerous peer-reviewed journals and textbooks on various topics related to prosthodontics, aesthetics and implant dentistry.

Dr. Reshad trained at Kings College Dental School followed by the Eastman Dental Institute in London.

Dr. Reshad is on the editorial board for the Journal of Esthetic and Restorative Dentistry. He is an honorary clinical teacher at the Eastman Dental Institute and a member of the faculty of the Global Institute for Dental Education.

The Anacapa Dental Art Institute has been offering quality dental care treatments since 1996. The team specializes in implant, prosthodontic, cosmetic and restorative dentistry. It also offers gentle dental care treatments for patients aged 50 and above.

The Anacapa Dental Art Institute has two new state-of-the-art training and dental offices in Oxnard and Woodland Hills, Calif., respectively.

The Oxnard location, at 2821 North Ventura Road, Bldg H, has 3,600 square feet encompassing six treatment rooms, a fully in-house dental lab and a state-of-the-art teaching center, according to Anacapa Dental Art Institute founder Dr. Saj Jivraj.

The on-site teaching center includes a high-tech suite where other dentists can observe patient treatments. Courses have been arranged for dentists from Japan, China, India and South America.

The Woodland Hills office, at 6325 Topanga Canyon Boulevard, No. 513, is 1,500 square feet and it features an in-house dental lab catering to patients in and around Los Angeles.

The Anacapa Dental Art Institute has a staff of 11, which includes the two prosthodontists, a root canal specialist, a general dentist, two hygienists, three dental assistants and two receptionists.

Today’s Walk

This pretty much sums things up.

Coulee found a ball so she kept dropping it at my feet and stared happily at me waiting for the throw.

It doesn’t matter if the throw never comes. She never loses her optimism.

And Lacey brought us dead body parts. This was a nice little bit of deer she decided to bring me.  I keep asking for flowers (heck I’d be happy with twigs!), but she never seems to listen.  ;)

It’s Been a While

Yikes.  A month. I think that is the longest I’ve gone without blogging.  I’m not going to try and catch up as that isn’t motivating at all.  I will tell you about the conference I went to last week though.

Lorelei and I went to the PPOC Conference in Winnipeg.  It was good.  Really good.  We went out a day early and took a session offered by Chris Morris on using speed lights. This was the session I was most looking forward to as it was mainly about using lights in “sporty” situations – which means they couldn’t be big or bulky or too heavy.  He started from the basics and worked his way up.  Turns out I was missing a key piece of information to get my borrowed lights to work properly and basically everything I’ve done to this point has been a fluke.  Ha!  So that was nice to clear up and then to learn more on top of it.

I’d say my second favourite session was a surprise. It was a talk by Deasy Photography.   They have a very interesting way of doing business and it was definitely food for thought for most of the people in the session.  I might eventually try and incorporate some of their practices.

There was also a great session on website content by Jenika at Psychology for Photographers. I’ll be making some changes for sure to my website.  In fact it might get a complete overhaul. It’s been quite a few years since I’ve done much with it.

I also had a portfolio review done by Paul Wright.  It was good – he was complimentary, had some advice and gave me some things to think about in terms of my future direction.

The PPOC is an interesting organization.  I’ve never seen so many members so enthusiastic about their membership. It was great to see but I’m still not sold.  We’ll see. I might change my mind in the future.  Lorelei has signed up and I’ll definitely be asking her how she feels about it after a few months.

And in the spirit of always learning, I bought a used large black cloth backdrop right before we left.  I finally had time to try it out this weekend. I LOVE it.  It’s huge so the dogs can move around and it is so big they don’t need to be squished up against the back of it.  We had some fun taking some “serious” photos for a change.  Chewy was my assistant and helped to turn Lacey’s head for me. :)

Almost a Year

I’ve been planning to do a post to commemorate Lacey’s one year of being cancer free but a friend found out yesterday that her dog has cancer and I no longer feel like celebrating. We truly had the best experience one could have with this kind of diagnosis – 2 weeks and 2 operations later, and it was over and done with.  Most dogs aren’t that lucky, but I hope things turn out OK this time too.
